Gender Mainstreaming

Gender inequality prevails due to patriarchal societal structure. Where gender inequality exists, it is generally women who are excluded or disadvantaged in relation to decision-making and access to economic and social resources. Therefore a critical aspect of promoting gender equality is the empowerment of women, with a focus on identifying and redressing power imbalances and giving women more autonomy to manage their own lives. Chetanalaya is always at the forefront of Gender mainstreaming. Chetanalaya adopts the three fold approach – sensitizing the community, empowering the women and girls and psychosocial support to women in distress. Chetanalaya sensitizes and orients communities on gender through various approaches like rallies, street plays, poster campaigns, awareness programmes, etc. Women are empowered through leadership and entrepreneurial trainings. This initiative not only creates economic opportunities for women but also instil self confidence and self realization among them. In order to help the women in distress, Chetanalaya in collaboration with Delhi Commission for women, resolve cases of domestic violence, abuse, harassment, dowry, etc.

Around 10000 women are benefitted from the gender mainstreaming intervention every year. Forming a gender-just society by empowering girls and women is what Chetanalaya aims at.
